Kern Dance Alliance Announces KDA Creative Corps Recipients and Grants $3.4 Million to Artists and Organizations Across Central California

Six individual artists and 14 organizations expected to create 571 jobs in the Central Valley and Eastern Sierras.

Bakersfield, Calif. (May 1, 2023) – The Kern Dance Alliance today announced the recipients of its inaugural KDA Creative Corps (KDACC) grant program. In total, KDACC awarded $3,382,613 for arts-based jobs and community service programs. Fourteen organizations and six individuals received funding for arts programming expected to create 571 jobs in the Central Valley and Eastern Sierra region. A full list of grantees is included in this press release.

“We were thrilled with the enthusiastic response to the KDA Creative Corps grant program from artists and organizations across the region,” said KDACC Program Director Andrea Hansen. “After a thorough review process, we are excited to announce the recipients and even more excited to see the impact their projects will have on the community over the next year.”

Applications from eligible individuals and organizations were reviewed against objective criteria that considered project design, artist involvement, impact on the Healthy Places Index, community engagement and budget.

“With 140 eligible individual and organization grant applications submitted, KDACC received an astounding $21.7 million in funding requests for $3.4 million in available funding,” said Hansen. “Applications came from all 14 counties in the Central Valley and Eastern Sierra region.”

A review panel adjudicated eligible applications based using a 6-point ranking scale. Final grant awards were determined collaboratively between the Kern Dance Alliance Board of Directors, KDACC program staff and California Arts Council (CAC) staff.

“We are so proud to support the arts and cultural workers by administering the California Creative Corps program in our region,” said Marcie Hronis, President of the Kern Dance Alliance Board of Directors. “The scale of impact the KDA Creative Corps and California Creative Corps programs are creating in Central California is unprecedented and vital to addressing the inequities and disparities facing our region.”
